I owe my life to Dr. Ford
Family Doctor: Tony FordDr. Ford has been our family doctor since 2008. In 2009, Dr. Ford diagnosed me with acquired hemophilia. I had been in Red Deer hospital for over a week, my left leg was swollen and the swelling spread up past my knee. I was sent home as the swelling, although not going down was no longer ascending. The physicians there thought perhaps a hemotology consult may be required, I was to follow up with my family physician. I saw Dr. Ford, he ordered bloodwork, I went to the lab and he called me later in the afternoon with a diagnosis. Later that night I was admitted to the U of A in Edmonton with a factor 8 of 2%. I was successfully treated with immunosuppressants. I owe my life to Dr. Ford.
In 2011, Don was diagnosed with prostate cancer. It was a long journey for Don and Dr. Ford was with him the whole way. Don called him his “quarterback”. Don was able to pass peacefully at home because our home care nurse could contact Dr. Ford when she needed to and he would call Don weekly to see how he was doing, it meant everything to Don. I’m crying as I write this because his support all those years and after Don died goes beyond anything I can put into words.
